FRANSCHHOEK
Franschhoek, or 'French corner' in Dutch, was first settled by French Calvinist Protestants fleeing prosecution in France. The year was 1688. The French chose the prettiest corner in the Cape to invest their fine wine-making skills, and today Franschhoek is blessed with some of the finest vineyards in the Cape. The small town centre is a tourist hotspot, filled with quaint but pricey bistro's, cafes, restaurants and much more. Stay in town and visit any one of the famous wine farms literally on your doorstep - La Motte, L'Ormarins, Haute Provence... |
